When the presenter of the Western Morning News Business Awards announced, “And the winner of Retailer of the Year is… Any Old Lights!” I can’t pretend we weren’t a little shocked. Well, you don’t expect to win things, do you?
These are prestigious awards, covering businesses of all shapes and size across the South West. Other winners on the night included Princess Yachts of Plymouth, St Austell Brewery and Eden Project founder, Sir Tim Smit.
The blurb for Retailer of the Year (kindly sponsored by Optimus Performance Marketing) ran:
This award will go to the company that best demonstrates that they are at the heart of both rural and inner urban life and form an essential part of local community.
They will need to provide the judges with evidence of how they contribute to the business community, providing employment to local people, as well as offering consumers choice, quality and service.
And there’s the crux. This is entirely a team effort and we are eternally proud of our small but perfectly formed gang: Justine (Customer Manager), Tracey (Accounts), Clive (Refurb), TJ (‘Saturday girl’) and Mandi (shop cover). And we’re equally proud of our gorgeous Cornish hometown of Fowey, evinced by the fact that we concurrently run the Love Fowey website and social media platform, promoting events and sharing community news.
Sinead (pictured) and I are both nursing mild hangovers this morning. After which…
Onwards and upwards!
