Alderson & Gyde Polished 1940/1941 Port & Starboard Copper Ships’ Lanterns
£750.00 (inc VAT)
A pair of Alderson & Gyde (Birmingham) port & starboard copper and brass ship’s bow lanterns, with original burners.
The starboard lamp is date-stamped 1940 and the port lamp is stamped 1941. In size and design they are a matching pair and would have been used as such given they arrived together, in all likelihood on a merchant vessel operating during World War II.
As you can see, we have had this stunning pair professionally polished. It’s unlikely you will see anything like this again.
A copper plate at the rear of each lamp slides upwards and out to reveal the burners, which slide out. We have not tested these, however as you can see from the photographs both are in excellent condition.
Selling as a pair only – to separate after all these years just wouldn’t be right.
Dimensions: 50 cm high, 40 cm wide.
