Bex Simon Designer Balanced Arm Lamp

We were extremely happy to be contacted recently by BBC1’s Money for Nothing, hosted by Sarah Moore. They offered us the chance to acquire a vintage industrial light, custom-made for the show by blacksmith artist, Bex Simon. And it’s stunning.

A vintage industrial green shade is balanced on a long wrought iron arm, using a counterweight. Move the counterweight backwards and forwards to alter the angle of the light. It’s a total one-off piece, currently on display in our Fowey shop at 9 South Street.

Bex, who has a degree in 3D Design working in metal, began trading as an artist blacksmith in 1999 and has gone on to create bespoke pieces of functional art for countless happy clients. She says on her website:

“My inspirations are nature, textures and the environment, also the Art Nouveau movement and artists like Gaudi and Lalique. Gaudi has been a major influence on me. I just adore his work and how he takes shapes from nature and uses them as a template for a design, something I incorporate into my own design process.”

You can purchase this rare piece from our online store. The episode, featuring the light being delivered to Nick at the shop, will air around October. We’ll keep you posted.
