Red Arrows back in Fowey!

The skies above Fowey will turn red, white and blue tonight when the world famous Red Arrows once again fly over our town. There’s no week better in Fowey than the Fowey Regatta, and our favourite event of the Regatta has always been the Red Arrows. After an absence of two years, thousands of spectators will flock into town and surrounding areas  to watch to watch the 20 minute display from 6pm.

For 40 years the Red Arrows has been a highlight of the Fowey Royal Regatta.  Some of our favourite childhood memories have been impatiently waiting for the Arrows to appear across the top of Polruan – and despite seeing them year after year they never failed to thrill the crowds.  In 2015 they couldn’t fly due to bad weather and in 2016 new rules following the Shoreham crash meant that they could no longer fly through the harbour.

So it is with great excitement that we welcome the Red Arrows back tonight!

The best vantage points for the display will be from Polruan and the nearby coast path and in Fowey from Readymoney, St. Catherine’s Castle, Alldays Field, Coombe and the coast path towards Polridmouth. Viewing the display from boats will also be popular.

And from there its short walk to town for the annual Giant Pasty ceremony at 7.45pm, where with the help of Fowey Town Band, the pasty is ceremoniously transported across the river to the bottom of King of Prussia steps. The Carnival Queen traditionally cuts the first slice, whereupon children of all ages are served up a piping hot slice. Strictly for the little uns – no grown ups are allowed a piece so don’t even try!

And don’t forget Spot the Stranger, the competition in Fowey’s shop windows that is loved by young and old – can you spot the stranger in Any Old Lights window display?
