BBC1’s Money for Nothing film crew will be dropping by our little vintage lighting shop again today. We’ve just purchased a couple of very eye-catching upcycled vintage lamps off them.
The two Mic Stand Lamps (pictured) have been created by the show’s presenter and resident interior designer, Sarah Moore. As the name suggests, they’ve been upcycled very cleverly from a pair of microphone stands and vintage enamel shades.
Luckily we recently sold our previous acquisition from Money for Nothing: the very stately, and stunning, Bex Simon balanced-arm lamp – which was vast! So we’ve cleared enough space to show our new Sarah Moore lights off to their full advantage. Meanwhile – and the reason I had to dash away leaving this blog half-written yesterday – we’ve had a new shipment of vintage nautical lights in. It includes restocks of old favourites – such as the large vintage Russian submarine clocks (including brass-rimmed and outsized), vintage double-sided triangular clocks and finned aluminium ship spotlights that flew out last time they were in – as well as some great new-to-us additions.
We now have five different patterns of reclaimed maritime oval bulkhead lights, including a lovely art-deco-styled piece with ribbed glass, that comes in both aluminium and steel. There’s a very small number or really lovely, really rare Marine Radio Co Ltd clocks, some absolutely stunning – extremely heavy – Heath Robinson-style bronze and brass bulkheads, and a few very large round aluminium caged bulkheads.
