Fowey Regatta week is now underway – last night’s fireworks were fabulous – and there is plenty more to come this week.
Any Old Lights is taking part in the annual Spot the Stranger competition. Any business with a red-spot sticker in the window has placed an incongruous item within their window display that does not belong there. The Stranger in our shop window is pleasantly tricky!
One of the most popular events is the raft race today (Tuesday) along with swimming races from the Town Quay, and local lad DJ Zorro takes to the decks tonight with Aaron K from 9pm on the Quay.
The highlight of the week is always tomorrow’s Carnival, which winds its way through the town after the judging takes place on Squires Filed. Entrants create their costumes well in advance, and are closely guarded secrets only to be revealed on the day! Traders always dress up too, with competitions for Best Business.
New this year is the special outside broadcast throughout Wednesday from Pirate FM, hosted by one of Cornwall’s favourite comedians Johnny Cowling, and the Motown Pirates will being the evening to an end.
On Thursday morning don’t forget to register for the Gingerbread decorating on as it always sells out quickly. Plus there’s the Pasty Eating Competition. Along with the pirate invasions during the day, the evening will see the Fowey Town Band accompanying the Giant Pasty making its way over from Polruan, to be feasted on by the town’s children, with live music from Hit Pinch
The fun run and sports days takes place on Friday at Lankelly Rugby Club. Expect music from Cataclews, Last Night of the Proms with Britain’s Got Talent semi finalist Josh Curnow ending the evening.
Local acapella group the Fowey River Singers will be performing on Saturday. Along with live music from NoteAbility and Jailhouse plus an amazing fireworks display, Fowey Regatta will truly end with a bang!
Don’t forget the various competitions in the programme. Besides Spot the Stranger, Find the Pasty and guessing the album covers from the Regatta Programme artwork all have cash prizes.
Finally, a date for your diary: next year’s Regatta will be 13-19 August 2017
