Fowey Royal Regatta – Sunday 14th to Saturday 20th August.
We’re very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. We love it all year round but Fowey truly comes alive in the summer. The highlight for the town is the third week in August, when we hold the famous Fowey Regatta. 2016 features new and exciting entertainment, as well as the return of much loved favourites.
Carnival Day on Wednesday sees locals and visitors alike in an array of wild and wonderful costumes for the procession through the town, with plenty of prizes to be won. And during the day the town’s traders and shops are also dressed up – this year’s theme is pirates.
You can also enjoy the famous Giant Pasty ceremony, where the iconic pasty arrives by boat from Polruan, the Flora Dance where dancers clad in white twirl their way down Fowey’s narrow streets (anyone is welcome to join), plus spectacular fireworks beautifully illuminating the harbour.
This year for the first time there’s a live radio broadcast throughout Wednesday’s Carnival Day, with all the fun from Fowey brought to you by popular comedian Johnny Cowling and the Pirate FM crew.
Live music ranges from jazz, blues and pop on the Town Quay – including Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Josh Curnow – as well as concerts and recitals in the church. Add to that crab catching contests, children’s story time, magicians, the pasty–eating competition…
The popular Sports Day lets you try activities from local clubs, plus a Fun Run takes in stunning scenery around Fowey, alongside the usual swimming and raft races.
And of course there’s the sailing: races every day including Fowey’s world famous Troys and Falmouth Workboats, plus gig racing on the river.
Do drop by our little vintage emporium at 9 South Street and have a chat to the Any Old Lights team. Word of warning: you may not recognise us. Here’s Sinead pictured at a previous Fowey Regatta Carnival Day (with daughter Regan), dressed – obviously – as a plaice.
