Fowey Festival 11-19 May 2018

This Friday 11 May the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature  kicks off, and for us the chance to see one of our favourite new bands, Wildwood Kin. Their recent performance on the Old Grey Whistle Test was simply stunning and the acoustics in the church will bring out the gorgeous harmonies of this sister and cousins trio.

Not been to the Fowey Festival before? You’re missing out! Interviews,  talks and music events including du Maurier reading groups to panel debates; artistic workshops to concerts; walks and film evenings to children’s events, there really is something for everyone.

This year as well as names like Andy Kershaw, Tim Smit, Ian McCarthy and Patrick Gale you’ll also find more unusual workshops such as Adrian Holmes Japanese Woodblock Printing Workshop

On the final night you can enjoy music from up and coming folk duo The Rails, and throughout the week there’ll be jazz and classical recitals – as well as an evening presented by our very own Fowey River Singers and the St Austell Brass Band.

We’re always pleased to see more childrens activities, aiming to inspire, enthuse and engage children with literature from an early age. Award winning children’s author Tracey Corderoy, will be visiting schools in the area, plus there’s a cartoon workshop for bigger kids, and Eric Carle’s classic The Hungry Caterpillar will be brought to life for little ones.

The Arts Trail features variety of local artists opening their studios and galleries with art, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photography and paper cut art. There are some ‘secret gardens’ open to the public on the 18th and 19th May.

And don’t miss our good friend Barrie Gibson from Fowey Valley Cider offering tastings of local cider, gin and vodka.

And if you’ve wondered why the local phone box and bus stop next to the Safe Harbour has changed colour, wonder no more! Thanks to the Fowey Festival, this disused phone box will be a permanent lend and drop off library.
